Paragliding and the FDP Pro

The FDP Pro is an ideal handheld radio for use with Paragliding.

Rob Steane from FDP Radios Tasmania is your distributor for the FDP Pro for use with Paragliding.

Rob is also able to programme the SAFA’s (Sports Aviation Federation of Australia) licenced channel into your radio for bona-fide members, being LMRS approved.  Programmed alpha tagging/channel alias allows easy identification of this channel – plus you get full use of all the CB channels and repeaters as standard.

More information about the SAFA can be found here: www.safa.asn.au

CTCSS/DCS access via the FDP Pro’s keypad allows you to customise tones for use at different paragliding venues around the country.

Commonly used channels and tones for paragliding venues are:

Sunshine Coast (QLD) CB CH.14 – CTCSS 97.4

Canungra PG (QLD) CB CH. 18 – CTCSS 97.4

Canungra HG (QLD) CB CH. 19 – CTCSS 97.4

Fly Kilarney (QLD) CB CH. 20 – CTCSS 97.4

Wicked Wings (QLD) CB CH. 28 – CTCSS 94.8

North Rivers (NSW)  CB CH. 19 – CTCSS 97.4

N-E Victoria (VIC) CB CH. 28 – CTCSS 97.4

N-E Victoria (VIC) CB CH. 29 – CTCSS 97.4

Skyhigh (VIC) CB CH. 16 – CTCSS 97.4

Dynasoarers (VIC) CB CH. 16 – CTCSS 100.0

Western Victoria HG Club (VIC) CB CH. 20 – CTCSS 100.0

SAFA – 472.1250 Mhz (bona-fide members only).

The FDP Pro’s menu is also easier to navigate than a lot of other brands, due in-part because of the numbered keypad. The radio’s voice prompt is of particular advantage when you can’t always easily see the LCD screen too. Compact,  exceptional battery life, well priced accessories, IP67 waterproof and dustproof, plus a long list of other features – the FDP Pro is a great choice for you next flight.

For those operators that want a simple use radio and are not comfortable with changing user settings, these club channels and tones (listed above) can be preset into a special block of channels with alpha tagging, and the Function Button disabled, so the radio becomes ‘software defined’ only. Ask Rob about your requirements.  Software defined is the standard configuration for the radios set up specifically for paragliding.

For paragliding, the radio can be used by itself, though for convenience the FDP Pro Speakermike is a good option, as is the Utility Belt Radio Pouch with chest harness, depending on how you wish to use and secure the radio.
